Ducks Breakaway Bar & Grill
About This Spot
Stepping into Ducks Breakaway Bar & Grill, located just steps from the hum of Santa Ana’s airport, feels like finding a familiar pause amid the bustle of travel. The space hums with a steady, easygoing rhythm—where the energy of planes overhead gently mingles with the warmth of approachable service. Whether you settle into a booth away from the windows or perch at the bar, there’s a quiet nod to comfort here, a reassuring spot to catch your breath before your next adventure or to unwind after a long day.
The mood is casual without feeling rushed, a balance that invites travelers and locals alike to linger. It’s not just a pit stop but a modest stage for simple enjoyments—the satisfying clink of glasses, the low murmur of conversations, and the satisfying arrival of the kind of food that feels like a thoughtful gesture rather than a menu item. The familiar scent of grilled fare—juicy burgers layered with crisp bacon, or the subtle sweetness of a mango salsa — mingles with the inviting aroma of freshly brewed coffee and sharp, well-crafted cocktails.
Here, even ordering feels modern yet unpretentious. A digital menu brings convenience, while friendly smiles from staff bridge the screen with genuine human connection. The surroundings keep things light and unassuming, allowing the joy of good company and well-made food to take center stage. And while some might come in for a quick meal between flights, it's the subtle moments—a shared laugh over wings, a carefully prepared salad enjoyed in quiet company—that truly define the experience.
The selection speaks to a balance between familiar favorites and a few unexpected touches, offering something for those craving comfort as well as those seeking a fresher twist on classic bar and grill fare. Refreshing cocktails and a well-curated beer list keep the conversation flowing, whether you’re on a solo pause or in the middle of a gathering.
Ultimately, Ducks Breakaway is a welcoming pause—deliberately low-key but thoughtfully designed—a place where the journey’s rush softens just enough to savor a small moment of ease and authenticity on the edge of the airport’s constant motion.

Food was great, you order through the QR Code on your table, only problem is that with bar seating on the perimeter of the restaurant there are not QR codes for every seat making you have to order in person which can be difficult with very busy servers. The Food took 20 minutes which was great and it was delicious for the price.

Another day goes by, another airport, another burrito. So, in the right context of “airport burritos,” can they change your life? No. But as places to wait in airports go, this one does the job. I was able to find a seat and snagged a nice, comfortable booth in the back to hear the sweet sounds of jets and terminal announcements. Everything was clean, and the atmosphere friendly. Once I got my coffee, they kept it full, and the waitress was quick and polite. Their menu has alcohol, a good variety of food, and if you have some time to kill, this is a great choice. Don’t get me wrong—it’s airport food, and I only eat burritos. So it’s on par with that. Seating was open and the comfortable booths were tucked away in the back. The online ordering was easy, and whoever the waitress was did a great job with service. I’ll be stopping here again when I fly into town.

Had the Turkey Burger with Mango Salsa + Bacon. I was thoroughly surprised how good the turkey burger was! Really nice mouth-feel to it and very, very juicy! The mango salsa went really well with it, so I'd want to extra next time. They also give you plenty of fries that makes the airport prices (if I remember about $15 for the sandwich & fries, $2.5 for bacon) very much worth it. Service was pretty fast when I was there, but it wasn't so busy then, and I've definitely seen the place fill up at times of the day, so probably best to leave yourself some time to eat.

Hope was the absolute best server I’ve ever had. I don’t know what you’re paying her but it should be more. Maybe she should train other servers. We were here for the Rose Bowl - go Hoosiers! - and weren’t looking to a long trip home. Hope made the first part of our journey feel welcoming and fun. Hoosier hospitality in Cali!

Food was great! Ordered a steak Ceasar salad. Salad is great. They brought it out super quick. Only thing is maybe I'm a bit old school but I had to order through my phone once scanning the QR code. I guess for convenience it works. But then you have less waiters or waitresses. Kills jobs and tips. I mean hard to leave a tip when they only just drop off food and you have no other contact. If this continues we will end up with the robots that come to your table. Anyhow the food was good. I recommend this place.
